A gala night for The Artful Dodgers will be held at the cornerHOUSE on Tuesday, December 2 from 7-9pm. All are welcome. Come along and meet the artists and hear about what inspired their work. The exhibition, which runs from December 1 to January 4, is also available to view when the cornerHOUSE is open.

The Artful Dodgers, is a group of painters based in New Malden. In the last couple of years, the group, made up of more than a dozen local artists, has been meeting every Saturday morning to paint in a wide variety of locations around the New Malden, Kingston, and Surbiton area.

Many of the pictures in this exhibition come from these ‘en plein air’ sessions.
Ian Williamson, who is a founder member of the group, said: “The group came about when its founder members met several years ago at an inspirational art class on alternate Saturdays at the Malden Centre. During the summer term, the tutor encouraged the class out of the studio and into the great outdoors. It was so successful that some started going out on other Saturdays and then during the summer break.”

“Now we have an all-year-round programme of Saturday morning en-plein-air venues in winter in pubs, cafes and churches and a growing membership,” he said. “The group is eclectic: all ages, backgrounds and abilities – but we enjoy each others’ company!
“This exhibition, entitled Local Colour, shows our individual responses to the many interesting locations within easy reach of New Malden, Kingston and Surbiton, and includes other work by our members. We hope you will draw inspiration from our pictures, and have as much fun viewing them as we have had creating them.

Members of the group have exhibited previously in small exhibitions at the Orange Tree Theatre, Richmond, in Cafe Galia, New Malden, and at the Malden Centre.

The art work will be for sale from £40-£150, there will also be unframed exhibits from £20-£90. Two pairs of invited exhibits from the group’s current and previous tutors may be priced beyond this range.
