This a call for actors for an amateur production of Goodrich and Hackett’s acclaimed play ” The Diary of Anne Frank”. We will be casting ten roles ( see below for the cast list) at audition workshops on Wednesday 31st May (7.00 pm – 9.00 pm) and Sunday 11th June (3.00 pm – 5.00 pm). The production will run at the cornerHOUSE from 1st to 3rd September. Rehearsals will be during the period 16th July to 31st August; fuller details of these will be discussed with those cast. Anne Frank The thirteen-year-old Jewish girl who writes a diary while she is hiding in Amsterdam from the Nazis during World War II.
Margot Frank Anne’s sister; she is three years older than Anne.
Otto Frank Anne’s father; he is a Jewish businessman who left Germany after Hitler’s rise to power.
Mrs. Frank Anne’s mother; she is the source of many conflicts with Anne during the two years that the family spends in hiding.
Mr. Van Daan A Jewish businessman and an associate of Mr. Frank’s. He and his family share the “Secret Annexe” with the Franks.
Mrs. Van Daan Mr. Van Daan’s wife; a rather interfering person. Anne finds it difficult to get along with her.
Peter Van Daan The Van Daans’ son; he is two-and-a-half years older than Anne, and his calm, quiet nature contrasts with her more excitable, vital personality.
Mr. Düssel An elderly dentist who joins the group in hiding in November 1942. He shares Anne’s room, and his pedantic nature continually irritates her.
Mr. Kraler A Dutch Gentile businessman who has been an associate of Mr. Frank and Mr. Van Daan and who takes over the running of the business when they are no longer able to do so.
Miep A young woman who works in the office below the “Secret Annexe.”

The play originally opened on Broadway in 1955 (only 8 years after the publication of Anne’s diary.)
It won the Tony Award for best play, The New York Critics Circle Award for best play and, perhaps most prestigiously, The Pulitzer Prize for Drama. The play was revived on Broadway in 1998, with Natalie Portman as Anne, this time winning the Tony Award for Best Revival. Over the last 60 years, the play has been produced to great acclaim on both sides of the Atlantic.
PERFORMANCE DATES:
Friday 1st September, Saturday 2nd September and Sunday 3rd September (matinee)
The performance will potentially take place in the round, with audience close to the action of the play.
The play will be directed by David Lawson Lean
REHEARSAL PERIOD:
16th July – 31st August. Minimum of twice weekly; potentially one weekend rehearsal and one evening. Please advise of holiday absences on auditioning, as these will be considered during the final casting.
AUDITIONS:
