The Taming of the Shrew

Sat 30 Jun 2012

The TV reality show The Only Way is Essex meets the Bard in Tanju Duncan's take on William Shakespeare's controversial comedy The Taming of the Shrew at the cornerHOUSE in June.
The highly respected Surbiton director, whose much acclaimed production of Steven Berkoff's play East sets off on a nationwide tour in July, brings her talents to this action-packed Elizabethan romp.
"The contemporary setting will take out any perceived political correctness about the classics, bringing it back to just being human – while being truthful and honourable to the original text," said Duncan who will be taking the play on to the Rose theatre as part of Kingston's International Youth Arts Festival.
"We aim to amplify Shakespeare’s language through the use of movement, mime and music, bringing an exciting slant on this well-known classic.
"The Taming of the Shrew will tickle the audience as they recognise the characters in a setting which says something about their world today - showing that Shakespeare’s works are truly timeless," added the director whose byMoonlight theatre company is gaining a reputation for staging new writing and taking a fresh approach to ancient and modern classics.
