Carnival Arts

Mon 10 - Fri 14 Aug 2009

Come join the masquerade

Design costumes and masks which will feature at this year’s Kingston Carnival during a week-long course at the cornerHOUSE in August.
Run by Ereybo Arts as part of the Kingston Summer Uni programme, Carnival Arts will teach 11 to 16-year-olds the skills to make outfits which celebrate carnival.
Course leader Eveline Reynolds-Boison, said: “Be part of it! Learn how to make costumes and masks that celebrate the colour, music and dance of this particular festival and take part in the Kingston Carnival on Sunday, September 6.”

The course at the arts centre in Douglas Road, Tolworth, is designed to encourage creativity and self expression and to make costumes for this year’s carnival. It also aims to increase community interest and participation in the Kingston Carnival and celebrate the cultural diversity of the borough.
Carnival Arts, which runs from Monday, August 10 to Friday, August 14, from 10am to 2pm, is free, but young people must apply beforehand to Kingston Summer Uni via its website at summerunilondon.org.
